"Real Life" demo recording 2002

Dear Reader

I came across two songs written in late 2002. They have my demo vocal on them so I'm a bit embarrassed to post the audio - however lyrics are another matter. It is worth also noting the complexity and density of the arrangement.

This one is called "Real Life". It was written at a time that I was trying to build a freelance music business with bugger all business skills. I have always been completely hopeless at selling, myself or anything else, so I sent out all the demos and waited, while the rented studio space ate into our savings. Not good.

I did really enjoy being alone to create music, and I did quite a lot of that. Not much of the results have been heard by anyone. The lyrics do indicate the other side of feelings at this time - a consciousness of being "other" perhaps? I should point out that the lyrics are actually addressed to my wife. I did not want to write a "hey you make me feel good" song, it's a thank you in it's own oblique way although I have never actually considered playing it to her.

can you tell me is this real life

or is it just an effect?

Is there another version to download,

a plugin to install

can I find it on the net?

Tell me is this real life

or just another room?

Am I just a shadow on a screen,

or something in between,

am I all alone?

can you tell me is this real life,

or is it just an effect

is there another version to download,

a plugin to install,

can I find it on the net?

tell me what it feels like

to hold another hand,

to make a warm connection

with one who understands,

who can bring me back to

real life

can you tell me is this real life

or is it just a mirage?

is there another story to unfold,

a vision to behold

other words untold?

show me what it feels like

to hold another hand

to make a warm connection

with one who understands

who can bring me back to

real life
